Trust
How we intend to earn it.
Scaffolding handles high-stakes writing for seventeen-year-olds. Trust is not a marketing page for us — it is the infrastructure. This page gathers our concrete commitments, with current numbers where we have them and explicit pre-launch markers where we don't.

Compliance statements
FERPA plus the four state statutes that apply to most under-18 student data we handle. Full deeper details live on /trust/compliance.
FERPA
Family Educational Rights and Privacy ActScaffolding receives student educational records only from the student themselves. We do not pull from school SISes; we are not a "school official" under FERPA and do not act as one. Students retain access to their data and can export or delete it from /account/data.
CA SB-1177
Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA)For California students under 18: we do not use any data collected for advertising, do not build profiles for non-school purposes, and do not sell student information. The under-18 consent flow surfaces the SOPIPA acknowledgement explicitly.
IL SOPPA
Illinois Student Online Personal Protection ActFor Illinois students: we honor SOPPA breach notification timelines, do not sell student data, and provide a Data Protection Addendum on request for educational institutions that integrate Scaffolding.
TX SB-820
Texas Student Information Privacy ActFor Texas students under 18: we comply with TX SB-820's prohibition on selling student data, building advertising profiles, or using student data for non-educational purposes.
NY §2-d
New York Education Law §2-dFor New York students: we acknowledge the §2-d Parents Bill of Rights, treat student data as confidential, and do not disclose to third parties without consent. Breach notifications follow the 7-day window.
The Voice Covenant
In revision mode, Scaffolding never writes prose for the student. Our agents ask questions; the student writes answers. Every word in the final essay is theirs. This is an explicit commitment, enforced server-side. We believe it is the single most important trust decision we have made.
